Why Family Matters

At the South Pacific Division, we believe family matters deeply to God. Scripture reminds us that the home is the first school of discipleship, a place where faith is nurtured and character is shaped for eternity (Deuteronomy 6:6–7). Whether the family is large or small, blended or single-parent, new to faith or long established, all are welcomed and valued.

We commit to being a church family that:

Affirms the home as a centre of spiritual growth
We encourage worship, prayer, and Bible learning in the home, helping families grow together in Christ and prepare for His soon return.
“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” — Joshua 24:15

Supports parents and caregivers
We stand beside those raising children, equipping them to model Christlike love, grace, and integrity.
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” — Proverbs 22:6

Nurtures children and youth in the faith
We prioritise ministries that guide our children and teens into a personal relationship with Jesus and involvement in His mission.
“Let the little children come to Me… for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 19:14

Celebrates the Sabbath as a gift for families
We uphold Sabbath as a time to rest, reconnect, worship, and delight in God’s creation and each other.
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy… the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.” — Exodus 20:8–10
“The Sabbath was made for man.” — Mark 2:27

Promotes wholeness
We value the Adventist emphasis on health—physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual—and seek to strengthen families in every dimension.
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” — 3 John 2
“Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.” — 1 Corinthians 6:19

Serves our community with compassion
We extend Christ’s love beyond our church, supporting families in need and being a light in our neighbourhoods.
“Bear one another’s burdens.” — Galatians 6:2
“Let your light so shine before men.” — Matthew 5:16

Because family matters to God, family matters to us
And no matter your journey, you have a place in God’s family and in ours.

As a local church leader, you know that families really important. We want to empower you to being a Christ-centred faithful leader.
